If you have ever seen Internet offers to do a free 7 or 10-day trial, make sure to read the TOS or terms of service. The Companies giving the offer are banking that you do not read them. I have yet to find a trial offer that did not come with a monthly fee associated with it. Most people will trust the ad and feel that they are getting all the information needed. This is never the case with advertising and especially advertising on the Internet. This is one reason why survey-taking websites are so popular. They can afford to pay you to do offers because most people join for the lure of the extra money. Rarely do they read the terms of service. So yeah they may have made an extra $100-$200 dollars but the cost to make that was greater. Most people are shocked when 7-10days later their card is being charged. The only way to win with this is to know the TOS and plan accordingly. If you are going to incur charges after the trial end be sure you know how to cancel.
Companies are also trying to make it harder to cancel. Before it could be done on a website or sending an email. Now you have to call or write a letter. 9 out of 10 times you will not receive an email with confirmation. When you call to cancel they ask for information that if you’re not careful and document you will not have. Also in the terms of service they used to use numbers to show the monthly cost like $49.99. Those that do read them would easily spot the fee. Nowadays these companies are writing out the fee so $49.99 is replaced with forty-nine ninety-nine. That is a little harder to spot so if you quickly skim the TOS looking for numbers you won't find them. Don’t get tricked into thinking there are no other fees.
Think twice before signing up for free stuff on-line. There are very few companies on the Internet that are giving away free stuff.
