Who Wants $9,500,000.00 To Workout From March To June

Apparently not Jason Taylor. This is one of the crazier stories I have read about a professional athlete and money. Jason Taylor had a clause in his contract that would have paid him a 500k workout bonus if he stayed in Washington to workout with the team. He didn't even need to make every workout just 75% of them. If he would have lived up to that he would have been paid 9 million dollars for the upcoming season. Taylor decided he wanted to spend the time in Miami with his family. I know he has made a ton of money since being in the NFL but to make that decision is crazy. Taylor is on the downside of his great football career. He will probably be in the hall of fame one day. By choosing not to work out the Washington Redskins released him. by releasing him the Redskins do not have to pay him as NFL contract are not guaranteed Now did Taylor overplay his hand and thought they would not cut him only he knows. I am sure another team will sign him. The problem for Taylor is he was injured last season and did not play in many games. So the salary he will get will not be anywhere near the 9 million he would have received had he stayed with the Redskins.

It is funny how some people are just not in tune with the state of the economy and the struggles some families are going through. I guess when you get millions of dollars to play a game over the past 12 yrs or so it distorts your perception. Lets hope that Taylor took care of his money and will be ok. In my opinion for him to feel this way says to me either he does not have the passion for the game any longer or feels he has enough money in the bank to be fine for the rest of his life. He could have sat his family down and said I really want to spend time with you guys so this is my last year. After the season is over he could of spent the rest of his time with his family and an extra 9.5 million dollars to boot.
